December 2020 - Sierra PTA News

Calling All Sierra Community Small Businesses!

Sierra PTA would like to showcase businesses owned by Sierra Families in an effort to help promote them during the holiday season and throughout the year. Let’s keep our money local and our friends employed!

Whether you’re an artist, own a restaurant, or provide services to others, if you would appreciate an opportunity to spread the word about what you do in addition to parenting, please email us your advertisement. We’ll compile these images into a document for FREE and distribute them in early December.

Businesses must be elementary-school friendly, please no advertisements for alcohol, tobacco, etc. Sierra PTA reserves the right to not include an ad for any reason.

Please email general@sierraptaarvada.org with a ¼ page (no more than 3” wide by 4” high, otherwise we’ll shrink it) PDF/jpeg/similar image by Dec 7 (**Deadline Extended**). Feel free to include pictures of your work or links to a website.

If you’re interested in putting the document together, please let us know. As a thank you, we encourage you to place your own business first.

Restaurant Night- Please mention you are with Sierra Elementary

Thurs Dec 3 - GB Fish & Chips, 7401 Ralston Road - 4-9pm

Snowman Garden in Sierra Park!

Every time we get a decent snow this winter, let's create a collection of snow creatures in Sierra Park. Several of you requested outdoor activities during the recent survey, so this is one that everyone can participate in while not putting your families at risk. Pick your own day and time, social distance, and enjoy the fresh air. And don't forget to check out all of the other creations in the park- sabertooth tiger, anyone?

Holiday Lights Driving Map

Do you know of any houses that do an excellent light display during December? Please email the address to general@sierraptaarvada.org and we'll put together a map showing all of the best spots in the area to be distributed at the middle of the month. Feel free to include your child's name and grade and we'll put "As recommended by John, 2nd grade" to give them credit and create connections to their friends.

Spring Event Coordinator

Since we received such a positive response to our Strides for Sierra Virtual 5K, Sierra PTA would like to run another event in the spring. If you have any ideas or would like to coordinate or help with the event, please email me at president@sierraptaarvada.org. Thanks in advance!

Following up from Monika VanderStek and Jennifer Immen's SEL presentation at the PTA meeting, here is a parent training opportunity they are helping put together.

Building Resiliency in Parents and Children during Covid

We will focus on mental health and wellness during stressful times – how to “build your bank” to withstand the challenges that may or are occurring. There will also be a discussion of protective and resiliency factors, as well as when to seek out additional resources. This training will be facilitated over Zoom.
