Sierra Elementary PTA
January 29 - February 19
2027 Theme TBD!
What is the Read-a-thon?
The Read-a-thon is one of the two major fundraisers Sierra PTA runs each year. For three weeks in the Spring, students log their reading minutes and raise funds for the school via family, friends, and social media. Students, families, and teachers can then earn prizes for BOTH reading and fundraising!
While some schools utilize a system where donors pledge a particular dollar amount for each minute read, at Sierra we do not, in favor of a more straightforward donation system.
How does it work?
Step 1: REGISTER
Registration opens January 2027
Step 2: Fundraise
Once the readathon begins, it's up to your student to fundraise whatever way works best for your family! Many Sierra students share details on social media; others send messages about the fundraiser to family, friends, churches, or other organizations.
Our FundHub website tracks the donations you receive automatically if they're donated within that platform.
Our fundraising goal is $20,000, which the PTA uses for teacher grants, teacher appreciation, room parties, and clubs!
Step 3: Log reading minutes
This is where it gets a little bit trickier. Throughout the readathon, track the minutes your student reads OR LISTENS to a book (all grades this year!) Then log the minutes vis the FundHub website.
Some families find it easiest to log weekly and use a paper form to keep track.
Last year, students at Sierra read a cumulative total of 378,000 minutes!
Step 4: Win prizes!
It's celebration time!
Every Friday throughout the readathon, students will receive whatever prizes they're earned through both reading and fundraising. Some prizes are physical items while others may be an experience they'll be invited to later in the school year.
See below for this year's prizes and be sure to check out all of the wonderful sponsors who donated to make the readathon a success!
